Bessie the Artist

In a Nutshell

A cow discovers a unique talent and brings color to a dull farm.

The Miller Farm was a practical, hardworking place, but it was incredibly dull. Everything was painted gray or brown. Bessie the cow felt that the farm needed a little more color, but she was, after all, just a cow.

One afternoon, Mr. Miller carelessly left several open buckets of brightly colored paint near the barn. Bessie wandered over, curious. She swished her tail to chase away a fly, and the tip dipped into the bucket of bright red paint.

Without thinking, she swished her tail again, leaving a vibrant red streak across the gray barn wall. Intrigued, Bessie stepped toward the blue bucket, dipped her tail, and added a splash of blue. For the next hour, she happily painted swirls, dots, and lines all over the side of the barn.

When Mr. Miller returned, he was stunned. Instead of being angry, he looked at the colorful masterpiece and smiled. "Well, Bessie, you’ve got talent," he chuckled. He started leaving safe, non-toxic paints out for her every week. Soon, people came from neighboring towns just to see the beautiful murals painted by the artistic cow.
